3G Network Shutdown

Follow

Mobile carriers around the world have been retiring their legacy 3G networks to expand and improve 4G LTE and 5G services. As a result, some older devices that rely on 3G technology are no longer able to connect in certain countries or regions.

The original Solis 1 is affected by this industry-wide transition and may no longer work where 3G service has been discontinued.

Why Is This Happening?

The retirement of 3G networks is a decision made by mobile carriers, not SIMO.

Although the original Solis 1 supports 4G data, it relies on legacy 3G technology during parts of the network registration process. As carriers continue to phase out their 3G infrastructure, the device can no longer establish a cellular connection on those networks.

This transition affects many older wireless devices across the industry—not just Solis products.

Which Devices Are Affected?

Original Solis 1

The original Solis 1 may no longer connect in countries or regions where local carriers have retired their 3G networks.

Supported Devices

The following devices use modern cellular technologies and are not affected by the 3G network sunset:

  • Solis Lite
  • Solis Hero
  • Solis Go
  • Solis 5G
  • Solis Edge
  • Solis Pro
  • Other current SIMO devices

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Solis 1 still work?

It depends on where you're using it.

If your local carrier still operates a compatible legacy network, your Solis 1 may continue to connect. However, because many carriers worldwide have already retired their 3G networks, connectivity is no longer guaranteed and availability will continue to decrease over time.

Why doesn't my Solis 1 connect where it used to?

If your Solis 1 previously worked in a location but no longer connects, the local carrier has likely retired its 3G network.

This industry-wide change is outside of SIMO's control and affects many legacy cellular devices.

Are my data plans affected?

No.

Any active data plans associated with your Solis 1 remain available on your SIMO account.

If you upgrade to a compatible SIMO device, our Customer Support team can assist with transferring any eligible data plans.

Is there an upgrade or trade-in program?

Available upgrade offers and trade-in promotions may change over time.

For the latest information, visit the SIMO website or contact Customer Support to learn about current options for Solis 1 customers.

Why are carriers retiring 3G?

Retiring 3G networks allows carriers to:

  • Expand 4G LTE and 5G coverage
  • Increase network capacity
  • Improve speed and reliability
  • Support newer devices and technologies
  • Reduce maintenance of legacy network infrastructure
