If your SIMO device is disconnecting frequently, experiencing slow speeds, or providing an inconsistent internet connection, follow the troubleshooting steps below. Most connectivity issues can be resolved in just a few minutes.
Step 1: Check SignalScan™
If you’re using the SIMO App, start by using SignalScan™.
SignalScan™ automatically scans the available cellular networks in your area and identifies the strongest available connection for your SIMO device.
Using SignalScan™ can help:
- Find the best location for your hotspot.
- Improve connection stability.
- Increase download and upload speeds.
- Reduce dropped or intermittent connections.
To use SignalScan™:
- Open the SIMO App.
- Connect to your SIMO device.
- Tap SignalScan™.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to locate the area with the strongest cellular signal.
Tip: Even moving your hotspot a few feet—such as placing it near a window or higher on a shelf—can significantly improve signal quality.
Step 2: Restart Your SIMO Device
Restarting your device refreshes its connection to the cellular network.
- Turn off your SIMO device.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Turn it back on.
- Allow up to 2 minutes for the device to reconnect.
Step 3: Check Your Cellular Signal
SIMO devices rely on local cellular networks. Weak signal strength is one of the most common causes of unstable connections.
For the best performance:
- Place your hotspot near a window.
- Avoid basements, underground garages, elevators, and areas surrounded by concrete or metal.
- If you’re traveling, move to another location and test your connection again.
Step 4: Reconnect Your Device
If you’re connected over Wi-Fi:
- Disconnect your phone, tablet, or computer from the SIMO Wi-Fi network.
- Reconnect using the hotspot’s Wi-Fi password.
- Test your internet connection again.
Step 5: Verify Your Data Plan
If your data plan has expired or you’ve used all of your available data, your connection may stop working or experience reduced performance.
To check your plan:
- Open the SIMO App.
- Sign in to your account.
- View your remaining data balance and plan expiration.
- Purchase or renew a data plan if necessary.
Step 6: Check for Network Congestion
Internet speeds may temporarily slow down during periods of heavy network usage, especially in:
- Airports
- Stadiums
- Shopping malls
- Concerts
- Large public events
If possible, wait a few minutes or move to a different location.
Step 7: Update Your Device
Keeping your SIMO device up to date ensures you have the latest performance improvements and bug fixes.
If a firmware update is available, install it.
Step 8: Reduce Wi-Fi Interference
If multiple devices are connected or you’re too far from the hotspot, your Wi-Fi connection may become unstable.
For the best experience:
- Stay within approximately 30 feet (10 meters) of your hotspot.
- Minimize walls and obstacles between your device and the hotspot.
- Disconnect devices that are not actively being used
Step 9: Test Another Device
Connect a different phone, tablet, or computer to your SIMO hotspot.
- If only one device has the issue, the problem may be with that device.
- If every device experiences the same issue, continue to the next step.
Step 10: Check for Carrier Outages
SIMO connects through local mobile carrier networks. Occasionally, those networks may experience temporary outages or maintenance.
If you’ve completed all of the troubleshooting steps above and your connection is still unstable, the issue may be related to the local carrier.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my internet keep disconnecting?
Common causes include:
- Weak cellular signal
- Network congestion
- Temporary carrier outages
- Wi-Fi interference
- Outdated firmware
- Poor hotspot placement
Running SignalScan™ is the fastest way to identify whether signal strength is contributing to the issue.
How can SignalScan™ improve my connection?
SignalScan™ measures the cellular signal available in your current location and helps you position your hotspot where it can receive the strongest connection. A stronger signal often results in:
- Faster download and upload speeds
- More stable connectivity
- Fewer dropped connections
- Better video calls and streaming performance
Why are my internet speeds inconsistent?
Mobile network performance can vary depending on:
- Cellular signal strength
- Network congestion
- Your location
- Weather conditions
- Your device’s cellular capabilities
Does restarting my SIMO device help?
Yes. Restarting your hotspot refreshes its connection to the cellular network and often resolves temporary connectivity issues.
