As wireless carriers around the world continue to upgrade their networks, 3G service has been retired in many countries to make room for faster and more efficient 4G LTE and 5G technologies.
Because of this industry-wide change, the original Solis 1 hotspot may no longer work in many locations.
Why is this happening?
Mobile carriers—not SIMO—are retiring their legacy 3G networks to expand and improve their 4G LTE and 5G coverage.
Although the original Solis 1 can connect to 4G data, it relies on older network technology during the connection process. As more carriers permanently shut down their 3G networks, the Solis 1 can no longer establish a connection on those networks.
This is an industry-wide change affecting many older wireless devices.
Which devices are affected?
❌ Original Solis 1
The original Solis 1 may no longer connect in countries or regions where carriers have retired their 3G networks.
✅ Solis Lite, Solis X, Solis Go, Solis Pro, Solis 5G, Solis Edge, and newer SIMO devices
These devices support modern cellular technologies and are not affected by the 3G network shutdown.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my Solis 1 still work?
It depends on where you’re using it.
Your Solis 1 may continue to function in areas where mobile carriers still operate compatible legacy networks. However, since most carriers worldwide have already retired their 3G networks, connectivity is no longer guaranteed and will continue to become more limited over time.
Why doesn’t my Solis 1 connect where it used to?
If your Solis 1 previously worked in a location but no longer connects, the local carrier has likely retired its 3G network.
This change is outside of SIMO’s control and affects many legacy mobile devices.
Are my data plans affected?
No.
Any active data plans associated with your Solis 1 remain on your account.
If you upgrade to a compatible SIMO device, our Customer Support team can help transfer eligible data plans to your new device.
Can I return my Solis 1?
If you purchased your device directly from the SIMO website and it is still within our return window, you may be eligible for a refund according to our Refund Policy.
Purchases outside the return period are not eligible for a refund.
Is there an upgrade or trade-in program?
Trade-in programs may vary over time.
Please visit our website or contact SIMO Support for the latest upgrade offers and promotions available for existing Solis 1 customers.
Why are carriers shutting down 3G?
Retiring 3G allows mobile carriers to:
- Expand 4G LTE and 5G coverage
- Increase network capacity
- Improve speeds and reliability
